November 1999’s block was a Sawtooth.

The finished block measures 12 inches square (12 1/2 inches unfinished).

  1. Cut one 4 1/2 inch square from a white-on-white fabric.
  2. Cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares from a white-on-white fabric.
  3. Cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares from a dark holiday green fabric.

  1. Cut two 4 7/8 inch squares from the dark holiday green fabric, then cut on the diagonal to form four triangles.
  2. Cut two 4 7/8 inch squares from a deep holiday red fabric, then cut on the diagonal to form four triangles.
  3. Cut four 4 1/2 inch squares from the deep holiday red fabric.
  4. Sew two of the green 2 1/2 inch squares to the top corners of each red 4 1/2 inch square, placing them in the upper corners and sewing diagonally across the square.  Trim 1/4 inch from the seam and press open.
  5. Sew two of the white-on-white 2 1/2 inch squares to the bottom corners of each red 4 1/2 inch square, placing them in the upper corners and sewing diagonally across the square.  Trim 1/4 inch from the seam and press open.
  6. Sew together the red and green triangles to make 4 1/2 inch squares.

  1. Assemble the block as pictured; you will have nine squares that will go together like a nine-patch block.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure twelve and one-half inches.  Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 12 inch finished size -- as the “finished” measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.
