October 1999’s block was a Four-Patch Nine-Patch.

The finished block measures 12 inches square (12 1/2 inches unfinished).

  1. Cut four 4 1/2 inch squares from a white background fabric.
  2. Cut twenty 2 1/2 inch squares from bright jewel tone fabrics.
  3. Assemble the jewel-tone squares into five 4-patch squares.

  1. Assemble the block as pictured; you will have nine squares that will go together like a nine-patch block.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure twelve and one-half inches.  Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 12 inch finished size -- as the “finished” measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.
