October 1998’s block was an Ohio Star.

The finished block measures 9 inches square (9 1/2 inches unfinished).

  1. Cut four light 3 1/2 inch squares.

  2. Cut one dark 3 1/2 inch square.

  1. Cut two 4 1/4 inch squares from the light fabric.

  2. Cut two 4 1/4 inch squares from the dark fabric.

  3. Cut these squares diagonally to form four triangles.

  1. Assemble the triangles by sewing each dark to a light, then sew these units together to form a square.

  2. Sew your squares together to form the block.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 9 1/2 inches.  Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the nine inch finished size -- as the “finished” measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.
