Mock Logs

The block for June/July 2006 is the "Mock Logs" block

Each finished block measures 7 inches square.  (7 ½ X 7 ½ inches unfinished). 

 Instructions:  Use good quality, 100% cotton pre-washed fabrics.

 
1.          cut yellow strips
  
2.           cut purple strips

3.           cut white squares

4.       assemble block

Select a white solid background fabric, six purple scraps, and six yellow scraps 



Cutting instructions:

    1.   From the yellow fabrics, cut six 1 1/2-inch wide strips at the following lengths:  1 1/2-inches,
    2 1/2-inches, 3 1/2-inches, 4 1/2-inches, 5 1/2-inches, and 6 1/2-inches.

    2.   Do the same for the six purple fabrics.

    3.   From the white background fabric, cut seven 1 1/2-inch squares.



Piecing instructions:
4.   With right sides together and using a 1/4-inch seam allowance, sew each of the white squares to one of the yellow strips along the short edge.  Press toward the yellow side.  Refer to graphic 4.



5.  Referring to graphic 4 for positioning, sew each of the purple strips to the end of its corresponding white square.  Press to the purple side.  Then sew these rows together into a finished block.  Pin at the intersection to ensure the points match as closely as possible.  Press.


    


Your completed unfinished block will measure 7 ½ inches.
7 inches after sewn into a quilt!
