January 2003’s block is a "Star of Hope"
Instructions: Use good quality, 100% cotton pre-washed fabrics.
The block measures 12 inches square. (12 ½ X 12 ½ inches unfinished).
Choose a tone-on-tone bright yellow-gold fabric for the star, a small print blue fabric for the interior of the star, and a dark blue print or tone-on-tone fabric for the background
1. From the dark blue background fabric, cut four 4 1/2 inch squares and one 5 1/4 inch square. Cut the larger square twice diagonally for form four quarter-square triangles.
2. From the yellow-gold fabric, cut one 4 1/2 inch squares and two 5 1/4 inch square. Cut the larger squares twice diagonally for form eight quarter-square triangles.
Sew the yellow square between 2 yellow/blue units making sure the light
blue triangles are next to the yellow square. Press toward the yellow
7. Sew the rows together to form the finished block. Remember
to pin intersections well to make clean corners.
Your completed unfinished block will measure 12 ½ inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block. DO NOT cut it to the 12-inch finished size -- as the "finished" measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a aquilt top.
