Choose a tone-on-tone dark shade of a spring color (pink, green, blue, yellow, or purple) and a medium shade coordinating fabric.  The background is a white-on-white.

1.  From the white-on-white fabric, cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares.
From the dark fabric, cut two 2 1/2 inch squares.

2.  From the white-on-white fabric, cut three 2 7/8 inch squares.
From the dark fabric, cut one 2 7/8 inch square.
From the coordinating fabric, cut two 2 7/8 squares.
Cut each of these squares diagonally to form 12 triangles.

3.  With right sides together, sew each of the dark and coordinating triangles to a white-on-white triangle along the long side of the triangle using a 1/4" seam allowance.  You should end up with six half-square triangle sets.  Four will look like the first square in graphic 3 and two will look like the second square in graphic 3.  Press seams to the dark sides.

4.  Sew the squares into four rows and then assemble these four rows into a finished block.  Refer to graphics 4 & 5 for placement.  Remember to pin the rows together well at the seams to ensure your corners match up as closely as possible.

Ta-Da!!!  Wasn't that easy?

Your completed unfinished block will measure 8 1/2 inches.
