Block of the Month

May 2000’s block was a Scrap Star.

The finished block measures 11 inches square.
(11 1/2 inches unfinished).

Instructions:  Use good quality, 100% cotton prewashed fabrics.

 

Use four prints per block; two in the center four-patch, one for the star, and one for the background.

  1. Cut four 3 1/4 inch squares from your background print.
  2. Cut one 6 3/4 inch square from your background print; cut diagonally both ways to form four triangles.
  3. For the star points, cut four 3 5/8 squares from a second print; cut in half diagonally.
  4. For the center four-patch:
    • Cut two 3 1/4 inch squares from a third print.
    • Cut two 3 1/4 inch squares from a fourth print.
  5. Connect each row as shown in the above graphic.

  1. Connect the center four-patch.
  2. Sew the long side of two star point triangles to the short sides of each large background triangle.
  3. Sew the background corner squares to each side of the top and bottom rectangles, then sew the side rectangles to the four-patch.
  4. Complete by sewing the top and bottom pieces to the center piece.
Your completed unfinished block will measure 11 1/2.
Eleven inches after sewn into a quilt!
