April 2000’s block was a Jewel Box.

The finished block measures 12 inches square.
(12 1/2 inches unfinished).

Instructions:  Use good quality, 100% cotton prewashed fabrics.

Jewel Tones are those that can be compared to the color of a jewel.  Turquoise, Amethyst, Ruby, Emerald, Topaz, Sapphire, etc.

  1. Cut four 3 7/8 inch squares from a white-on-white; cut diagonally.
  2. Cut two 3 7/8 squares from a jewel tone; cut diagonally.
  3. Cut two 3 7/8 squares from a different jewel tone; cut diagonally.
  4. Sew a white-on-white triangle to each jewel-tone triangle.  Press the seam towards the jewel-tone.
  5. Cut sixteen 2 inch white-on-white squares.
  6. Cut sixteen 2 inch squares from jewel-tone fabrics; preferably four squares from each of four shades.
  7. Sew a white-on-white square to each jewel-tone square, then sew the newly formed rectangles together with a like rectangle, as pictured, to form a square.

  1. Connect each row as shown in the graphic.
  2. Connect the top two rows.
  3. Connect the bottom two rows.
  4. Connect the final center seam.
Your completed unfinished block will measure 12 1/2.
Twelve inches after sewn into a quilt!
